STEP 1: What are you going to juice?
Different types of juicers are best for different types of produce.
(1) Carrots, beets, apples and citrus can be processed without any problems by almost every machine.
(2) Leafy greens / green vegetables, berries, results of juicing will vary depending on the juicer style.
(3) There are differences in the yield of juicing even within the same kind of fruits and vegetables. For example fresh apples will give significantly better yield of juice compared to the same apples a few weeks after harvest.

A high speed juicer processes a lot faster than a low speed. As well, there is usually less prep with our Omega Megamouth Juicers! However, if you want to store the juice for 48 or 72 hours, we recommend a low speed, masticating juicer.

Given the time constraints of our daily lives, some people prefer to juice in batches and store the juice. We recommend a low speed, masticating juicer when you want to juice and then store juice for 48 - 72 hours.

There is some waste involved with any juicer and the machine that extracts all the juice from fruit and vegetables has yet to be invented. The quality of the juice is directly related to how well the produce is broken down in the juicer and the quantity is determined by the pressure or force used to separate the juice from the pulp. You may have read that centrifugal juicers 'destroy enzymes' because of their high speed. There is no scientific evidence whatsoever to support such a claim. In fact, enzymes are abundant in the juice from most high speed centrifugal machines. The truth is that a good juicer produces good juice. A low speed, masticating juicer does slow down the degradation / oxidation process and often times, produces a slightly higher nutritional content since there is less oxygen incorporated during the juicing process, giving juice a slightly longer nutritional shelf life.
STEP 6: Understanding the Juicer Styles
>>> Masticating (Low Speed) Juicers
Juicers using the masticating process (which effectively "chew" the vegetable up, releasing more nutrients) often times produce juice with a slightly higher nutritional content and they incorporate less oxygen, giving juice with a slightly longer nutritional shelf life. The basic process of this juicer is a rotating screw (or auger) that crushes produce against a stainless steel filter by a process similar to a mincing machine. For the Twin Gear, two cylindrical gears which fit very tightly together, crush and press produce against the gears being pressed out and passed through the screen.
Masticating Juicers subdivide into sub categories:
Vertical Masticating:Small footprint, 80 or 43 RPM (depending on the style). Non-pulp lovers generally prefer the 43 RPM. * A note about the Vertical 43 RPM (Omega VSJ843) For the first time even the more difficult juicing ingredients can be juiced quickly and conveniently. The VSJ843 offers a dual edge auger, larger feed chute, larger screen and gives a high yield with the least amount of pulp.
Horizontal Masticating and JUICE CUBE: 80 RPM. Omega's horizontals, when using the homogenizer, can also make purees, all-natural nut milks, nut butters, frozen sorbets, baby food, extrude pasta, etc
Twin Gear:Takes longer to use but generally offer the best juice quality.

>>> Centrifugal (High Speed) Juicers
Centrifugal juicers work by using a flat cutting blade on the bottom of a rapidly spinning basket. Food is shredded by the cutter and flung out to the sides of the basket. Due to the high centrifugal force, juice then passes through tiny holes in the basket and through a spout. This is similar to a washing machine on the spin cycle. Your clothes are the pulp, the water that spins through the side screens is the juice.

Fresh is always best and vitamin C is needed for all repair and regeneration of tissues in the body. Your body can't manufacture vitamin C and fresh orange juice is one of the best ways to get it. Beware of so called 'freshly squeezed' orange juice from the shelves of supermarkets. Usually it has been pasteurized and the heat involved in this process inevitably destroys some of the goodness in the juice. You can juice oranges in any fruit and vegetable juicer but they are one of the few fruits you have to peel before juicing because of the bitter oils in the skin. If you don't fancy the hassle of peeling a pile of oranges before you start juicing, a dedicated citrus juicer means all you have to do is cut the fruit in half and off you go.
